BRICS Tax Heads and Experts Meeting started in Moscow

A meeting of BRICS Tax Heads and Experts under the chairmanship of the FTS of Russia brought together representatives of tax authorities of Brazil, Egypt, India, Iran, China, UAE, and South Africa.

This is the first in-person meeting of BRICS Tax Heads and Experts since the expansion of BRICS community.

FTS Commissioner Daniil Egorov in his opening remark mentioned that this year the FTS of Russia has proposed a new approach to the development of BRICS tax cooperation. “This year for the first time we have applied a project-based approach to the tax authorities’ interaction. The basis for this approach was laid down at our meeting in Cape Town last year”.

Daniil Egorov also noted the high engagement and active work of all members under the BRICS tax cooperation. “To increase the efficiency of BRICS tax cooperation, we need to strive to make it as productive as possible, focused on achieving practical outcomes that benefit all its members”, said the FTS Commissioner.

The events under BRICS Tax Heads and Experts meeting will last until September 27. On September 24–25 tax experts’ meetings will take place. They will be devoted to the key areas of BRICS tax cooperation, that are Client-Centric Approach in Tax Administration, HR Practices in Tax Administration, VAT Modernization, Sourcing and Use of Data, as well as career prospects for Women and Young Professionals in tax authorities. On September 26, a meeting of BRICS Tax Heads will be held to summarize the Working Groups’ outcomes and identify further trends for tax cooperation between BRICS countries.
